A duet for E♭ Alto saxophone and piano. This piece kind of straddles the line between jazz and academic composition. The choice of instruments is partly responsible, but much of the harmonic texture of the piece also balances between tonal and atonal.
Given the title, I always thought a violinist should be present on stage at a performance, not playing. But I fear that would turn it into a comedy performance, which is not the intention (although I suppose it is lingering in the title).
Performed at the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill), Dec. 1976
Thomas D. Brosh, saxophone.
